Florida Quilt
Study Group
The FQSG studies
pre-1950 quilts. Among us are historians, teachers and a quilt
appraiser, but mostly people who just love old quilts and want to learn
more about them. A topic is selected for each meeting, and participants
bring quilts or quilted items. The story behind the quilt, if known, is
shared, and information is given regarding the age of the quilt or its
individual fabrics, chemical processes of the textiles used, what was
happening historically around the time the item as made, trends, block or
stitching patterns and much more is revealed or discussed.
We meet four times
a year on the first Saturdays of February, April, October and December at
the Suwannee Valley Quilt Shoppe in Trenton, Florida. We begin at 10AM,
break for lunch, and end the day by 3PM. The shop provides a great
classroom for display and discussion, a wonderful in-house café for lunch
and … another opportunity to shop for fabric!

The Southern Stars Quilt Guild is the southernmost of the five
Broward County (Florida) guilds, and serves quilters from north Miami-Dade
to central Broward and beyond. The Southern Stars meet the third Monday of
each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2919
Van Buren Street in Hollywood, Florida 33020. The group
kicks off with socializing and refreshments from
6:45 p.m. until the start of the meeting around
7:15 p.m.
The short business meeting is followed by a program, which might be
something hands-on, a demonstration, a make-it-take-it, a lecture, or
something else entirely. Programs are eclectic and always interesting.
While the Southern Stars have refreshments every month, they also hold a
pot-luck banquet at the end of their fiscal year in June, and a holiday
celebration feast each December.
Among the activities that keep life interesting for the Southern Stars, in
addition to an invigorating program each month, are Block of the Month,
fat quarter drawing, name tag drawing, library raffle, field trips to fun
and fascinating places, intriguing workshops, mystery quilt, secret pal,
an annual charity project (in addition to the BQE raffle quilt), and any
other worthwhile activity someone cares to spearhead. We are a smaller,
very active guild where everyone has a voice, and we welcome new ideas
along with new blood; just keep it off the quilts!
If you are interested in joining our guild (membership is only $30 a
year), if you'd like to attend a meeting to see what we're all about, or
need more information, please contact one of our board members.

Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild
We are a Sarasota
FL area branch of the Modern Quilt Guild –formed for quilters living in

come together to share, learn, support, experiment and have FUN!!! We
are forming now (November 2012) and will start meeting in January
2013.
Our focus is on
creating functional quilts that have one quilting foot in the
contemporary and one quilting foot in tradition. We make primarily
functional rather than artquilts, use asymmetry in quilt design and
other modern approaches mixed with a nod to the traditional.
