Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #181

October 7, 2013

Quilting Friends,

I am impressed with the amount of quilting events this fall in Florida.  There was a time in the not-too-distant-past that we had one quilt show and maybe one workshop in the last few months of the year.  Wow!  We are busy in Florida! Now that the heat isn't keeping us cooped up, I encourage you to get out and see some quilts and get inspired!

To get a complete, organized, hotlinked listing of all the Florida upcoming shows, retreats, workshops, shop hops, exhibits, etc, please visit the Calendar
Happy Quilting,   Mary-Jeanine
PS: I love to hear from you, so drop me a line sometime!

MODERN QUILTING CLASSES

I am very thrilled to announce that I am now offering workshops on the latest quilting trend—modern quilting.  The modern quilting movement is drawing many new quilters to our craft, and it is re-energizing a lot of quilters who have taken a more traditional route to their quiltmaking.

I have a new website:  www.modernquilter.us     On this site, I have descriptions of the workshops and a lecture that I give on modern quilting.

My workshops are fun and everyone will receive supportive attention.  And, there is a nice balance between guidelines (not rules) and freedom to explore and improvise.

When your guild or other group is looking for a one day (or longer) workshop on modern quilting, I hope that you will contact me!

All the best,
Carole

NEW TEDDY PRUETT LECTURE AVAILABLE

Finally, after many guild requests and a very long wait, Teddy Pruett is offering a new program. Program chairs, listen up!  Here's her description:

"Second Hand Stories"
Trunk show of the quilts that made me famous!  Well, fame being a relative term.......I'm more famous than the lady who puts the rubber tips on bobby pins.  Retrospective begins with the first few "rule breakers" way back when.  I knew it was fun, but didn't yet know I'd found my style.  You discover your style in retrospect, you know - I don't think you can plan it ahead of time.  See the progression of quilts as they began to get into art galleries, museums, and books, right on up to the latest 'off the charts' silliness.  Just how far can you go with a traditional Dresden Plate or Sunbonnet Sue?  This is the lecture where you discover the answer!!

For more information and fees, visit her website at www.teddypruett.com
