Quilting Friends,
Guess what is going on outside?  Band #4 is buffeting our home in Altamonte Springs.  I’m hoping to put this newsletter to bed before the power goes out…here goes…

If you’re a fairly new reader of this newsletter, you may not know that the Calendar page on the website is a quick way to view upcoming events all over the state.  Give it a look-see.

Happy Quilting,   Mary-Jeanine

PS: I love to hear from you, so drop me a line sometime!

QUILT SHOW IN ESTERO

Celebrating National Quilting Day March 18 and 19, 2017 at Koreshan State Park and Historic Site, Estero, FL -  between Ft Myers and Naples.

The Koreshan Clothesline Quilt Show will celebrate National Quilting Day on Saturday,  March 18, 2017 from 9-5 and on Sunday, March 19 from 9-3 in conjunction with the Antique Engine Show at the Koreshan State Historic Site, 3800 Corkscrew Rd at the intersection of Rt. 41 in Estero, FL.

The first National Quilting Day was observed in 1992 and since then it has grown into a global celebration for all quiltmakers and quilt lovers. Helen Storbeck, one of the founders of National Quilting Day, wrote in The Quilting Quarterly, "Groups of quilters were encouraged to hold special events, publishers and shop owners were invited to sponsor promotions especially for quilters and it quickly became a grassroots endeavor with quilters in every part of the country participating.  As our feelings of a community network has evolved to include a world community, it is only appropriate that quilters and quilt lovers everywhere united to give recognition to the special art form."

The Koreshan Clothesline Quilt Show features vintage quilts from their collection as well as contemporary quilts.  Vintage sewing machines are being used and on display.  The purpose of the Quilt Show is to learn how to care and preserve quilts while celebrating the tradition still carried on by quilters today.

We’re selling care and preservation kits and offering demonstrations on re-folding quilts,  how to clean them, how to preserve them,  and how to document them.
We’re offering demonstrations on the 1898 electrified treadle, 1903 hand-cranked,  and 1952 featherweight sewing machines while making quilts for the VA hospitals.

The Quilt Show is in conjunction with the Antique Engine Show as well, featuring antique farm engines, small steam engines,  and Fairbanks Morse 80 HP diesel and gasoline engines.  That way men and women alike can enjoy the day at the Park.  Demonstrations will also include a 1905 working line shaft, generator, and cooking demonstrations on our Period wood burning stove.
Park Event admission is $5 per vehicle.  Contact the Koreshan State Historic Site Ranger’s Office at 239-992-0311 for more information.
