If you live in the Orlando area, you may have noticed that we do not have a local Quilts of Valor group nearby. Well, Melissa Mathews is going to change that! She is working to bring together quilters in the Orlando area to make quilts for active service members and veterans who have been touched by war as a tangible award of gratitude and appreciation. A “Getting To Know You” gathering will be held as soon as a meeting place for the group is secured.

Closed: 70” W x 22 1/2” D x 29 1/4” H.
Open (doors folded flat): 76” W x 22 1/2” D x 29 1/4” H
With side palettes when straight out to the side add 26 1/2” per extension to Width.
With the out-back Leaf up: it is 46.25” deep.

QUILT RETREATS!

From Cheryl Green: I host quilt retreats at the "Seven" hotel in Sebring, Florida 4-6 times a year. Quilters can sign up for 3-4 nights. I will have my mobile shop (fabric, notions, etc) on site during the retreats, and there will be prizes, specials, kits, a free pattern. Quilters bring snacks as there will be a snack sharing table. Coffee and water is provided. A full breakfast is offered if desired. The hotel usually runs lunch specials for the quilters and dinner on their own. The first retreat is Jan. 5-9.

Other Dates: Feb. 23-27, and May 10-14

I also offer to bring my mobile shop to other guild retreats if I am contacted and they would like me to set up for them at another location. My prices are extremely competitive. My all cotton fabric is 6.00 a yard, batiks are 9.00 a yard. I also offer the absolute best non-slip rulers, mats, rotary cutters by Quilters Select at a discounted rate.

Note: Saturday, February 8th, is Red, White and Blue Day! Activities supporting Southeast Florida Honor Flight include:

Free Admission - for veterans with a military ID, to the quilt show on Saturday, February 8th.
Three Red/White/Blue quilts will be auctioned off starting at 11:00am and the associated auction proceeds will be donated to Southeast Florida Honor Flight. Only Cash or Checks (made out to Southeast Florida Honor Flight) will be accepted.
Wear Your Patriotic Colors - a free raffle ticket for a special Patriotic gift basket will be given to anyone wearing Red, White, & Blue on Saturday, February 8th. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased for 6 / $5 or $1 each. The proceeds of this raffle basket will be donated to the Southeast Florida Honor Flight.
An information table for Southeast Florida Honor Flight will be available with applications for veterans and guardians for future flights.

QUILT SHOW IN VENICE

Responding to requests for additional information on “Centennial Garden”, the Venice Area Quilters’ Guild’s Raffle Quilt to be featured and awarded during their 18th biennial Quilt Show, the guild explains that it showcases 80 individual blocks from the pattern: “Sylvia’s Bridal Quilt” by Jennifer Chiaverini. Both 1920s original and reproduction fabrics were used to construct the blocks more than 10 years ago by Mary Anne Rhodes, one of the guild’s lifetime members. These blocks were saved individually protected in vinyl sleeves with personal notes referencing the fabrics and pattern identity, along with the original book! Current guild members assembled the blocks, added sashing and border fabric. The exquisite quilting was done by Pat George. Named to honor 100 years of womens’ accomplishments, the quilt measures 84 by 100 inches.

Quilting by the Gulf, A festival of Quilts, will be held Friday, March 6, 2020, from 9 am – 5 pm, and Saturday, March 7, 2020, 9 am – 4 pm, at the Venice Community Center, 326 S. Nokomis Av, Venice, FL. Tickets and additional information may be found online at www. Vaqg.org.
