Florida Quilt Network - Newsletter #28

June 14, 2000

Quilters,

Time once again to update you on the quilt happenings!  I want to mention something that some of you have figured out already.  If you want me to publish information for you more than once, all you have to do is SEND it to me more than once.  Within reason, please.  I post Almost everything I'm sent./g/

Also, for you Quilt Shops out there, let us know what is happening in your shop…shop hops?  Christmas in July?  National Teachers? Big Sale?  Reasons for Road Trips?  With the quilt show schedule slowing down for the summer, we need reasons to get out of town!  Email to me your news, and I'll send it out.

And on that note, feel free to share my email address with your local quilt shop so they can get "in the network".

Wanted to share with you a very cool quilt, thank you to Aileen Kline for sending this my way:

www.thesupper.net

And finally, my own guild, Central Florida Quilters Guild, is looking to share expenses of a national teacher in the fall of 2000 or beginning of 2001.  If you already have someone lined up that has a few extra days, or you too are looking around for a teacher for this time period, please email me and I'll get you in touch with my program chair, who is in between email accounts at the moment.  mji@cfl.rr.com.  Thanks!

NEED HELP FINDING A QUILTER

Message-ID: <11.44b7c21.26628aaa@aol.com>

I Have a friend in central Florida. She is a quilter. She did live near Clermont. I think she recently married and moved. I was hoping I could locate her address through the quilting quilds. Her name was Lenda Dittrich. If you know her, could you get me her address, or at least let her know I would love to hear  from her. She may have moved to the Florida west coast.  Thanks so much.

INVITATION TO VISIT/JOIN A GUILD

The Winter Haven Quilters are busy working on baby quilts which they donate to the Polk County Sheriff's Department every year. In October, the Quilters will exhibit in both the Art Galley at Polk Community College in Winter Haven, and The Depot Museum in Lake Wales. The PCC Show has become a yearly event, and is the most popular exhibit in the Art Gallery. The exhibit in Lake Wales will be a new venue for the quilters. Work is also progressing on two "Sofa Quilts" which will be raffled off by the club beginning this fall. For recreation, the ladies will be working on mystery quilts. Our doors are always open to visiting quilters. We meet at the First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven on the first and third Mondays of each month excluding the third Monday in December. You may call the President Ruth Briggs at (863)294-2685 for more information.

QUILT SHOW IN LADY LAKE

The Villages Quilting Guilds of Lady Lake Florida announce their third quilt show-------SHOWCASE OF QUILTS 2001 to be held Saturday and Sunday February 3 and 4 at La Hacienda Recreation Center at 1200 Avenida Central in the Villages of Lady Lake. It will be featuring  Many quilts and wearables, Boutique, 4 Raffle quilts, 10 vendors, many door prizes and interesting demonstrations. This year we will be using the whole building.  There will be a complete restaurant in one area.  We have plenty of close parking.  We also hope to have a part of the Hoffman Challenge but haven't received final notification.  For more information contact Diana Myers at 352-753-8244 or e-mail at dianadare@mpinet.net.  We'll see you next winter.

Thanks so very much Mary Jeannine.  It is a closed show just one more year since it is just our third effort and we are not sure how many quilts we can handle.

SHARING A NATIONAL TEACHER

Another interesting bit of information-- we will now be able to join in when a teacher is traveling through.  Our recreation director, John Rohan,  will set it up in one of our large rooms at Hacienda and we will be able to have the funds.  With the show going on in Feb., we think that

March or April would be a good month for us if any teachers are flitting through.

QUILTERS DREAM CRUISE

January 20 - 27, 2001

Come along and join your fellow quilters and our guest instructors, including the famed Lois Higginbotham who will be teaching a mystery quilt.

We'll be sailing aboard Celebrity Cruises 5 star HORIZON. Celebrity Cruises is rated as one of the best cruise lines in the world for its passenger services and food.

The itinerary is unique - we'll be departing from Aruba with full day stops at:

· St. Thomas, which is considered to be the bargain shopping center of the

Caribbean, and home of Meagan's Bay, one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world.

· St. Kitts, home of Caribelle Batik Studios which produces some of the finest Batik fabrics in the world. We will arrange for tours of the studio where you will be able to watch the process of producing Batiks as well as have the opportunity to purchase clothing and fabric.

· St. Lucia, one of the most beautiful and lush islands in the Caribbean with it's Petons (semi-extinct volcanoes)

· Barbados, a very British island with great shopping in Bridgetown as well as numerous tourist attractions around the island.

We will also have two full days at sea for quilting and getting together in an area reserved exclusively for our group. The area will be set up to handle sewing machines if you choose to bring a lightweight with you.

In addition to quilting, there will also be all of the great entertainment, activities, food, etc., that make a Celebrity Cruise so unforgettable.

This cruise isn't limited to just quilters. There are lots of things  to do for spouses, non-quilting friends or those who just want to come and enjoy a great trip!

Prices start at $1,099 per person for inside cabins and $1,299 per person for Oceanview cabins and are based on double occupancy. (If you don't have a roommate, we'll help you find one!) These prices include all port charges and taxes as well as round trip air transportation from Miami. Air transportation can also be arranged from most major Florida and Georgia cities at an

additional charge.
